Miniature Circuit Breakers(MCB) Online
Protect your devices by using Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB)
Miniature Circuit Breakers or MCBs are electromechanical devices that protect electric circuits from threats such as an over current. In a typical electrical circuit, the over current might result from an overload, faulty design or even a short circuit. Miniature Circuit Breakers are fine alternatives to fuses since they don’t require a replacement when an overload is detected. An MCB offers improved operational safety and greater convenience unlike a fuse and does not incur a large operating cost as well. The construction of a miniature circuit breaker is profoundly simple, maintenance free and robust. In most situations, a MCB is simply replaced by a new one instead of being repaired or maintained.
Uses of Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB)
MCBs automatically switch off the electrical circuit during abnormal conditions such as the possibility of an over load or faulty conditions. The fuse does not sense such discrepancies, but a miniature circuit breaker does it in a more reliable way because they are more sensitive to over current than fuse. Another advantage of having modular circuit breakers is that the faulty zone of the electrical circuit can easily be identified as the switch operating knob reaches its off position while tripping. Whereas, since fuses are re-wirable or replaced for restoring the supply, quick restoration of supply cannot be possible. But with DC MCBs, quick restoration can be done by just switching on operation. Moreover, handling a modular circuit breaker is considered much safer electrically than a fuse. It is due to this reason, in modern low voltage electrical networks, miniature circuit breakers are preferred more over backdated fuse units.Besides protecting circuits against damage from short circuits and overload, the switchgear & protection MCB devices find use in a lot of other applications. The MCBs can be used in combination with a plethora of additional devices such as auxiliary switches, shunts, remote controlled systems, fault signal contacts and fire protection systems et al. MCBs having B, C and D tripping characteristics are ideal for use in applications that involve slightly, moderately and high inductive loads respectively.
MCB v/s Fuse – The Difference Between the Two
An MCB is the same as a fuse as far as the operation aspect is concerned. However the two are different in terms of reusability. A fuse once blown cannot be reused; an MCB can be tripped over and used to protect the circuit against exceeding currents and voltages multiple times. Secondly, an MCB is more sensitive to current than a fuse. Moreover, handling an MCB is more electrically better and safer than is handling a fuse whose entire wiring has to be replaced after every single use.
