SMARTsaa Damaged Belt Detectors are designed to detect belt damage in conveyor belts and protects the drive system against premature failure. In combination with SMARTsaa Rubber Tension Sleeves, they also detect belt tension and take measures to prevent overloading the belt. The detectors are equipped with an infrared sensor that detects parts of the belt that have come off in shreds, steel ropes that stand off from the belt and torn edges of the belt. The detector has a self-diagnostic function and is equipped with a microprocessor. An external alarm enables the operator to recognize that a unit is defective without having to go close to it. This allows for fast replacement of faulty units. The units are connected by two spans of special PVC coated cable. One end of the cable mounts permanently to a support bracket and the other end is connected to a spring loaded ball located in a DBD unit. The switch gets actuated when an object or broken belt surface sweeps away one or both cables pulling spring loaded ball out of socket
