What is a power rating? A resistor's power rating indicates the amount of power it can safely dissipate. What do the colors mean? Each color band has a clear meaning. The first two colors represent the base value of the resistor, the next the multiplier, and the last band the tolerance. A five-band resistor is a more precise resistor, with the first three bands representing the base value, the fourth and fifth bands representing the multiplier and tolerance respectively. |
