The pressure can also be affected by conditions on the surface, such as air and temperature changes. When there are multiple fluids being extracted, it is important to monitor their pressures, because if they are not properly balanced, the entire extraction process can be disrupted.
The single manifold gauge works through a series of pipes that each connect to a different section of the extraction apparatus. The entire system is connected to one pipe that extends up to the surface, which connects to the gauge itself. Inside the device is a small weight that acts as a piston to open and close valves in each of the pipes extending from the main line. In this way, each pipe can be opened or closed independently as needed for monitoring. The gauge will display which valves are open so that workers know exactly what each pipe contains.
The single manifold gauge comes with four ports, which are arranged around a central hub. Through the use of a Y-shaped fitting or a T-fitting, the operator can easily hook up hoses or cables from different pieces of equipment. The ports on the single manifold gauge are standardized, making it easy to find fittings that will connect them together. One of the major advantages of this type of setup is that it reduces clutter and makes it much easier for an operator to hook up several pieces of equipment at once—for example, if you needed to connect two hoses and two cables at once, there would be no way to do so without using a single manifold gauge.
