The Pipes To Be Joint Are Cleaned, Inserted Into The Electrofusion Fitting And A Voltage Is Applied For A Fixed Time. Electrofusion welding is a process in which energy stored in the electric field between electrodes is transferred to the workpiece through an electric arc and used to melt the workpiece material. The joining of electrofused joints has been known since the 1960s. In 1971, the first commercial machine was marketed by OMEL of Denmark. It was intended for joining HDPE pipe and fittings, but would also join PVC and CPVC pipes and fittings. The word electrofusion originally referred to fusion welded joints produced by any method that joined metals without melting them, including fusion splicers, arc welding, electron beam welding and resistance spot welding. Today, however, the term electrofusion refers only to fusion welded joints produced by discharging current through an arc between two contacts. HDPE pipes are often used for carrying water, but for building and construction, they can be used to transport sewage, sludge and many other things that need to be safely transported from one place to another. HDPE pipes are typically joined using the electrofusion process. The electrofusion process joins the pipe through a fitting that contains electric heating elements. Electrofusion joints are generally strong and reliable. However, if not done properly, the joints may leak. Electrofusion fittings are made with high-quality materials, so they can withstand pressure without leaking for long periods of time. However, in order to ensure safety, electrofusion fittings must be installed properly. Improper installation could result in leaks or even bursting pipes.
