A tri-color indicator contains two LEDs of different colors. Typically, the two LEDs are symmetrically illuminated, resulting in a blend of the two colors. The best way to understand this is to think of it like mixing paints. For example, a combination of red and green produces yellow. If the two LEDs were red and green, the light emitted by the indicator would be bright yellow. Indicator Applications: The application of an indicator is entirely up to you. They can be fixed to circuit boards and attached to push buttons and switches. These types of indicators are primarily used in circuit board and electronic designs due to their relatively small size compared to other types of indicators, such as car turn signals. Why choose LEDs? LEDs have many advantages. Long life and low power consumption are the primary features, but there are many other reasons. Temperature: LEDs generate much less heat than incandescent or neon lights. Directionality: LEDs emit light in only one direction, reducing the need for additional components such as reflectors.
