The laser beam scans the surface profile and generates a signal according to the height difference between two points, which is picked up by photosensitive element. The signal goes through amplifier and then processed by microcomputer. The output signal represents peak level and valley depth of the measurement point.

The SRT6223 can be used in conjunction with any standard blasting machine to record the peak-to-valley height of blasted surfaces; or it can be used in conjunction with other types of equipment such as graders or bores to record the profile of a finished road or railroad bed.
